Keeping up-to-date !

It's been a busy time recently, and sometimes, with the best will in the World, a Month or so slips by when I forget to write a new post, so here goes ....Our show at Kilkieran Cottage Restaurant was, as always, a great Gig, and it has to be said that Gerry Madden did a great job, sitting in for Richie Foley on Mandolin. Kudos, also, to Frank and Ade for their on-going support for live Music ....

The following day, I was giving a Song-Writing Workshop at the first Annual Bluegrass Camp in Ireland, in Headfort School, near Kells in County Meath. It's quite an imposing House, on amazing lands, and as I approached the place, I couldn't help but wonder what Bill Monroe would have thought about it all. It's a far cry from his humble home in Rosine, Kentucky, but I could imagine him smiling to himself in quiet pride at the fact that almost a hundred Musicians, Singers, Instrument Makers and Song-Writers would be gathered in Ireland, all with the same central ambition, to learn how to play Bluegrass, or improve their playing, in these lavish surroundings. The whole experience was a great one, and successful on all levels, so watch out for next year. Thanks to Simon, TJ, and all their team.

On the Sunday, after another very enjoyable Song-Writing Workshop with an enthusiast gathering, I headed for St. Endas in Rathfarnham, for my Annual appearance at this beautiful venue. As usual, we were in the open air in the courtyard, where the Sun shone [ most of the time ! ], and again, the audience paid rapt attention to every song. The only interruption between 3-5pm was the occasional light shower, and the roar of a flock of Fighter Jets who were flying over as part of the Bray Air Display ! Thanks to Frank Whelan for his continuing support for live Music during the Summer at the Padraig Pearse school.

Next up I am looking forward to playing a couple of Dublin Gigs. The full NIALL TONER BAND will be in action at WHELANS in Camden Street, on Saturday the 13th of August, as part of the Blues, Roots and Grass Festival, with free admission to over 50 acts on that weekend. See you there ! Then, on Friday the 26th of August, we take part in the HOT SPOT ROOTS FESTIVAL in Greystones, with special guests, Paul Kelly and Frankie Lane. Not-to-be-missed !

Blog again, soon. Yours, Niall.
