A Friend Moves On ...

Robbie Brennan was a friend from the first moment I met him during the heady days of the early HANK HALFHEAD AND THE RAMBLING TURKEYS adventure in the mid-to-late 90s in Dublin. He was instantly likeable, with his quick humour and soft personality. The bonus was that he was a truly amazing Drummer, and through rough and smooth times, he never let the Band down. What a talent, and what a loss to the Music Community. R.I.P. Robbie, and thanks for the good times....

Last week we bade farewell to another Music Man that I admired so much over the years. Merle Haggard was a gigantic figure in Country Music, with a tremendous talent for writing and performing great, simple Songs, and he'll be sadly missed. I was greatly privileged to get up-close and personal with him in 2014, when myself and the Niall Toner Band played at MERLEFEST in North Carolina. When we shook hands backstage, Merle was being 'minded' by a large man, who said, sternly, NO PHOTOS ! So, you have to take my word for it, or ask Kelvin Busher, Richie Foley or Pete Wernick ..... I sang along with TONIGHT THE BOTTLE LET ME DOWN ...History !

On a lighter note, I have been asked to host a Songwriters Weekend in Killarney in November, 2016. Watch this space for more information over the coming weeks ....
