It's been a while since I wrote my last Blog, so here goes with a catch-up .... The Song writing never stops, and I have been working on material for my next recording project. Last Wolf On The Mountain is a song I've written with Paddy Kiernan which tells the story of the last Wolf in Ireland, which was killed by Wolf Hunterts on Mount Leinster. I first came across the story when I heard it on Sunday Miscellany on RTE Radio One, as told by John McKenna. [ Credit where Credit is due ! ] I am also writing with Dick Gladney, Johnny Gleeson, Richie Foley, Keith Sewell and others.
Work on our Documentary is also progressing nicely, and I recorded an extensive interview with Ciaran O'Connor which will form the centerpiece, combined with a live shoot of the Niall Toner Band. We also recorded a short interview recently for Carlow TV, which will soon be broadcast throughout the USA. We sang WAY OF A WANDERER, a song composed by yours truly and Keith Sewell, taken from our ONWARDS AND UPWARDS Album on Pinecastle Records.
I'm also delighted to say that I will be hosting a group of fifty or so Bluegrass Fans on a trip to the USA in September, visiting many of the iconic sites in Bluegrass, including Bill Monroe's homeplace, Ralph Stanley's home, and spending three days at the Annual IBMA festival of Bluegrass in Raleigh, NC. For booking details and further information, go to www.touramerica.com/bluegrass
Finally, my Roots Freeway Radio Show on RTE Radio One will be back on-air on Saturday, June the 4th, and I'll have wagon-loads of new Roots Music to play ......
That's the catch-up for now 1 Best, Niall.
